My Story
Whitney Lewis: Turning Passion Into Purpose
Whitney Lewis, founder of Cleaner KY, Inc., "Kentucky Sun KYst Sticks & Stones" has always been deeply connected to nature. Whether hiking Kentucky’s trails or kayaking its waterways, she found herself carrying grocery bags to collect the litter she encountered along the way. What began as a simple act of care soon grew into a mission that would spark a statewide movement.
On March 23, 2023, Whitney launched her first Earth Day challenge. Her goal was ambitious: collect 500 bags of trash across Kentucky by April 22—a date that marked both Earth Day and her birthday. Driven by determination and love for her state, she surpassed her goal, removing 757 bags of trash in less than a month.
That milestone was only the beginning. Inspired by the impact her efforts had on others, Whitney committed to continuing her cleanups every single day. Since that first challenge, she has personally removed over 27,000 grocery bags of trash from Kentucky’s waterways and natural spaces.
Her dedication has ignited a movement. Through the community group A Cleaner Kentucky, countless others have joined in, sharing their own cleanup stories and contributing to a collective effort. Together, the group has removed more than 700,000 bags of trash—a staggering achievement that reflects the power of grassroots action.
Whitney’s vision is clear: she dreams of Kentucky becoming the cleanest state in the country, setting an example for others to follow. For her, this mission is more than environmental stewardship—it is her soul’s purpose, carried out through love and service.
Every bag collected is a step toward a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Kentucky. Whitney invites everyone to join her journey: “Let’s get trashy—and make Kentucky the cleanest state in the nation.”
